So, why is it that the French, who take in a lot more fat than most people, have a lower occurrence of health disease than anyone else? Perhaps it is because they drink so much red wine. So, is red wine really that good for your health? I mean, it is an alcoholic beverage, isn’t alcohol bad for you?
Well, not necessarily. Experts and doctors do agree that there is something in red wine called Resveratrol that appears to do great things for your heart. Actually, red wine also raises high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol, and also inhibits the formation of blood clots.
So, while the research shows that red wine is indeed a heart healthy choice as far as alcoholic beverages are concerned, and while alcohol, in small amounts, is actually good for your heart, doctors also warn of the risks regarding alcohol.
Alcohol can be an addictive substance, and if consumed in access, can cause damage to the liver, obesity, high blood pressure, and can also cause accidents from intoxication. So, should you or should you not drink alcohol for your heart in the form of red wine? Yes, if you can do it in moderation. And never, ever, under any circumstances, ever drive or operate machinery after even one glass of wine. While it may be heart healthy, it is also best that it is consumed at home, where you will not need to drive home.
With that said, red wine is, indeed, good for your health. Grape juice is also good for your heart and for your body, however it lacks the alcoholic qualities that make red wine that much better for you. So, drink carefully, and always remember to consult your doctor as to whether or not red wine is good for you. But other than that, here’s to your heart!
